Kirkwood Public Library
The "Reading Buddies" meet once a week during the summer (this summer, the weeks of June 12-August 7 on a Thursday from 2-4 in the afternoon). The little buddies are children entering grades 1-4. I pair up the teens with the younger children for one-on-one reading time. We usually follow our reading time (about 45 minutes) with a large group activity to build group cohesion.
For an application or more information, visit us at www.kpl.lib.mo.us, click on "Teens" and "Get Involved" and "Library Volunteer."

McKnight Place Extended Care
McKnight Place Extended Care would love to have your students volunteer.
We are a 70 bed skilled nursing facility located off Delmar and Price Rd. We have 35 residents that would benefit from one-to-one visits. Most of these residents are up for meals only and the socialization and stimulation from the students would enhance their quality of life. We also have our Intermediate Wing where our high functioning residents live and the students could actually provide the activity or games depending on the time of day that they do their visits. For more information please visit the website at www.mpextendedcare.com or see Ms. Katie Postal in Campus Ministry.
St. Anthony's Medical Center - Hospice House (ongoing)
St. Anthony’s Medical Center which is located in South County is looking for volunteers in their Hospice House. Volunteers would read to patients, baking cookies, helping with meals, weeding the garden, assisting at weekly Mass and other tasks as needed.
Please call Frances Winkler at 314.525.7330 to volunteer.

Grace Hill Head Start Progam (ongoing)
What is Head Start?
Head Start is a national, child development program for children from birth to age 5, which provides services to promote academic, social and emotional development, as well as providing social, health and nutrition services for income-eligible families.
Head Start Goals
• To enhance children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development
• To enable parents to be better caregivers and teachers to their children
• To help parents meet their own goals, including economic independence
Head Start Program Philosophy
Invest now, benefit later. The Head Start program is based on the conviction that high-quality early childhood care, education and family services pay off in a myriad of benefits to children, their families and society as a whole.
Comprehensive programs. Research demonstrates many factors affect a child’s readiness for school: academic readiness and social and emotional development. Head Start’s programs are designed to address all those areas.
Volunteer Needs
To accomplish the program’s vast goals, community involvement and volunteer services are needed. There is a need for both professional and non-skilled volunteer services, as well as one-time, short term and long term volunteers. Please read the attached information on the various volunteer opportunities and specific needs.
