Writing Lab
Welcome to the St. Joe Writing Lab
What is the Writing Lab?
The St. Joe Writing Lab is a place where students can meet one-on-one with English teachers for help with any writing-related assignment. Students are encouraged to use the lab on a drop-in basis, or they may make appointments with teachers during mutual free periods.
Where is the Writing Lab?
The lab is located on the second floor in room 221.
What Kind of Help is Available at the Writing Lab?
• Grammar exercises
• Editing of papers (topic sentences, SIR packages, introductory and concluding paragraphs, transitions, etc.)
• Content of papers (addressing assigned topic, development of ideas, …)
• MLA format, including citing sources
• College and scholarship essays
• Papers for ANY class, not just English
When is the Writing Lab Open?
It is open during regular school hours.
Any time you see an English teacher in the room, he or she is there to help you.
A schedule of when teachers are in the lab is posted on our Writing Lab website (see link below) and is posted outside the writing center.
Other times are available by appointment. Use your email account to e-mail an English instructor when you need to set up an appointment.
Always feel free to "just drop by" the Writing Lab.
How Should I Prepare for a Writing Lab Visit?
Do your best work on the assignment prior to asking for help.
If possible, have directed questions about your paper that you want the teacher to address.
Have a clear understanding of the assignment for which you are seeking help. If the teacher gave a handout, bring it, or at least be able to communicate the type of assignment, any requirements, and the topic.
Online Writing Lab
You may also get help by visiting the new Online Lab! Visit the Online Lab for immediate access to writing aids. The Online Lab is always a work in progress, as is the writing process itself. Check back often!
