College Counseling: Scholarship Information

Bright Flight

This is the scholarship from the State of Missouri to any MO student who will be attending any MO school, public or private.

  • The qualifying ACT score is 31.
  • The qualifying SAT scores are Verbal-780 and Math-790.
  • No forms are distributed from St. Joe. All information to the colleges will be provided by the state.
  • If a student has indicated, when taking the ACT, that she may be attending a MO school, the state will send her qualifying score to that school.
  • Each student who qualifies for the Bright Flight will receive a letter in her senior year from MO STARS (Missouri Student Assistance Resource Services). This letter will indicate the qualifying score and which MO school or schools the student has named. If a qualifying student has not indicated any MO school, the letter will state this and give the student the opportunity to identify a MO school or schools. The letter will also explain what to do if a student wishes to add a school to her list.
  • The number to call to make changes or to ask questions is 1-800-473-6757.
  • The deadline for Bright Flight is July 1.

The American Legion

The American Legion publishes "Need A Lift" each year to "list scholarships, grants and loans for which students may qualify". A copy of this book is available for examination in the Guidance Centre front work room.

Association of the United States Army

The St. Louis Gateway Chapter of the Assn of US Army sponsors scholarships ranging in value from $1000 to $3000. Eligibility requirements include: Completion of the application, Child of a parent who works for a defense contractor or a defense agency or Child of a parent who is currently a member of an active or reserve component of the US Army; Submission of transcript and test scores, Resume, Two letters of recommendation and completion of an essay as described on the application form. Interested students are directed to check out the "Assn of the US Army" file in the Scholarship Drawer in the Guidance Centre. The deadline is March 7, 2007.

Asthhhma and Allergy Foundation of America

The St. Louis Chapter of the AAFA sponsors scholarships for St. Louis seniors, planning on attending college, "who have a history of asthma or severe allergies, and the accomplishments they have made despite the hardships of their illnesses." The application requirements include a transcript, resume, essay, recommendation from your counselor and a form for your physician to complete. If you are interested, check out the Scholarship File in the Guidance Office under Asthma and Allergy Found. of Am. The deadline is May 15, 2007.

AXA Foundation

AXA Foundation funds scholarships annually to students who demonstrate

Collegiate Scholarship Program

This is a scholarship service program that makes information on Seniors available to their corporate partners. A GPA of 2.5 is required plus answering questions and completing a resume format. Crestwood - Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce

The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors a $1,000 scholarship for a qualifying senior. The senior must reside in the city limits of either Crestwood or Sunset Hills. For more info or an application, check out the Scholarship Drawer in the Guidance Centre.

Educational Communications, Inc ECISF

Emerson Electric Company Minority Engineering Scholarship Program

St. Louis Community College, the University of MO-Rolla and Emerson Electric Company are co-sponsoring a minority recruitment project to attract, encourage and support promising minoirty students wishing to enter the field of engineering. Qualifications are: 1)hs graduate; 2)member of a minority group (Black, Hispanic or Native American); 3)resident of St. Louis City or County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County or Franklin County in MO and Madison County, Monroe County or St. Clair County in IL 4)two years of hs mathematics (Algebra I or higher); 5)math & science GPA of 2.5 or better; 6)math & science ACT scores of 18 or better; 7)two strong recommendations--at least one from a hs math or science teacher. Fireside Catholic Publishing

Fireside Catholic Publishing funds scholarships annually for Catholic High School Seniors who are daily "putting their faith into action". Every Catholic high school may nominate one student for this award. The nominee must write an essay explaining "How is your religious education influencing your life?" Florissant Valley Jaycees

The Florissant Valley Jaycees sponsor a scholarship to benefit a student who resides in (or attends a school in) the geographic boundaries of Hazelwood, Ferguson-Florissant and Riverview School Districts, has a gpa of 2.5 or greater, have significant community service experience and not be related to a current or life member of the Florissant Valley Jaycees. Greater St. Louis Mothers of Twins Clubs, Inc

Health Professional Scholarship

A group of dentists in the St. Louis area sponsor an annual Health Professional Scholarship. Students are required to write an essay of 500 words addressing "Why My Education Will Benefit My Future". Bernard C. Harris Memorial Scholarship Program

The Bernard C. Harris Scholarship sponsors scholarships to support Catholic education. The four criteria are Strong entrepreneurial spirit, superior family values, financial need and a minimum gpa of 3.0. The Kohl's Corp. sponsors the "Kohl's Cares for Kids" scholarship program. The Missouri Insurance Education Foundation sponsors scholarships for graduating high school seniors with an interest or intent of pursuing an insurance, risk management or actuarial science course of study. Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate Healing & Hope College Scholarships

Each year, the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and the Missionary Association of Mary Immaculate award the Healing & Hope Scholarship to a hs senior whose life embodies the philosophy of Share the Healing and the Hope. National Defense Transportation Association

The National Defense Transportation Association sponsors a scholarship to promote careers in Business, Transportation Logistics, and Physical Distribution. Eligibility includes: a high school senior in IL or MO who will be enrolled as a full time student at a NDTA Central Region accredited institution. (CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, MT, ND. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources offers an Environmental Education Scholarship Program designed to provide scholarships to minority and other underrepresented students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in an environmental course of study. National Federation of Independent Business

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) sponsors the NFIB Free Enterprise Scholars Award. Eligibility is based upon: demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative and participation in organizations such as DECA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Junior Achievement and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Student Athlete Scholarship Program

The NIAAA sponsors a scholarship program to promote, facilitate and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vial role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system. Applicants must complete an essay an--"How High School Athletics has Impacted my Life", have two of the following--a gpa of B+, top 25% of the class or an ACT of 24 or an SAT of 1100, participated in at least two sports for two years, played at the varsity level, have a letter of recommendation from the school AD who is a member of the organization and be approved by the school administration. Notre Dame Club of St. Louis

The Notre Dame Club of St. Louis announces its annual scholarship award competition. The ND Club will award one or more four-year scholarships to UND for St. Louis area high school seniors. Financial Need is a Prerequisite. Please see your counselor for further details.

Pierle Family Charitable Foundation

The Pierle Family Charitable Foundation sponsors a scholarship to Purdue University to a graduate from one of the following high schools: Jefferson HS in Lafayette, IN; Cathedral HS in Indianapolis, IN;
ST JOSEPH'S ACADEMY; or St. Louis UHS. The scholarship is based upon academic merit as determined by the Dean of the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue and may be awarded to a high school graduate who is pursuing a degree in the environmental area. There is also a smaller scholarship for students pursuing a degree in the Parmacal Sciences. Interested students need to check out the Purdue file in the Guidance Center College Files.

Plato's Closet

Principals Leadership Award

The National Association of Secondary School Principals with Herff Jones Inc sponors annual scholarships for outstanding student leaders. For more information, check out their website at www.principals.org/PLA

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honors high school graduates who have contributed volunteer community service. This is a highly competitive national award to young people who have made a major contribution to the betterment of their community. SAINT LOUIS AREA MENSA
St. Louis Area Mensa sponsors a $1,000 scholarship--the Memorial Scholarship for Mental Health each year. The applicant must be a student in good standing with a gpa greater than a 3.0 and plans to enroll in a two or four year program with a declared major in any of the mental health related fields. Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis

The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis sponsors interest free loans to qualifying high school graduates. The awards are given on the basis of financial need. This is an outstanding program. SAMMY 2007

The American Milk Producers and USA Today sponsor the 10th annual "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year" Award Program. The criteria is: 35% academic performance, 35% athletic excellence, 15% leadership, 10% community service and 5% milk experience. Student may nominate themselves. The rules, guidelines and an application may be found at www.bodybymilk.com The deadline is March 9, 2007. A poster is on the wall in the first floor hall with other college information.

Society of Automotive Engineers

The Society of Automotive Engineers offers scholarships to high school seniors who intend to
• Earn a degree in engineering or a related science
• Be a citizen of the United States at the time of the application
• Meet minimum requirements with regard to grade point average, SAT and/or ACT scores as outlined in the scholarship info
• Application must be postmarked by December 1st each year.

1. Department of Natural Resources

The Dept of Natural Resources of the State of MO offers an Environmental Education Scholarship to minority and other underrepresented students pursuing a degree in an environmental course of study. 2. Missouri Teacher Education Program

The Missouri Teacher Education Program is open to a MO resident, high school senior, ranked in the top 15% or has an ACT/SAT in the top 15%, who plans on attending an approved teacher education program at a four-year college or university in MO. Application deadline: TBA.

3. Missouri Minority Teaching Scholarship Program

The Missouri Minority Teaching Scholarship Program is open to a MO resident of African American, Asian American, Hispanic American or Native American heritage, a high school senior who ranks in the top 25% or has an ACT/SAT in the top 25%, will be enrolled in a participating, approved teacher education program at a community college or four-year college or university in MO. Deadline: TBA.

4. Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is open to a MO resident who is a senior attending a MO high school, will be accepted to a four-year institution of higher education as defined in Institution Eligibility Regulations, scores in the top 10 percentile of ACT, ranks in top 10% of class and files a statement of registration regarding US Selective Service status. Application deadline: TBA.

St. John's Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary/Mercy Medical Group

St. John's Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary/Mercy Medical Group sponsors a scholarship program. Eligibility requirements: a high school senior or graduate who plans to enroll in a health-related course of study leading to a certificate, diploma, license, associate degree or bachelor degree in an accredited university, college, nursing school or vocational/technical program. St. Louis Postal Credit Union

The St. Louis Postal Credit Union offers scholarships to members of their Express Club (members of the St. Louis Postal Credit Union). An essay is required and the deadline for receipt of the essay is Saturday, April 1, 2006. Town & Country and Frontenac Chamber of Commerce

The Town& Country/jFrontenac Chamber of Commerce offers three $1000 scholarships to students living in these communities or attending a school in these communities. Qualifications are: 1)have a GPA of at least 2.5; 2)plan to enroll in a post-secondary academic or vocational program; 3)have completed at least one class in the field of business; 4)have one letter of reference from an adult who is familiar with the applicant's interests and accomplishments; 5)write an essay of at least 500 words on the following--"Describe a service project in which you were involved and why the project was important. Toyota Community Scholars

Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. awards 100 scholarships to high school seniors who have demonstrated
• Outstanding academic credentials (3.0 or better GPA)
• School leadership
• A commitment to community service (active involvement).

United Negro College Fund

The United Negro College Fund/Cedric "The Entertainer" Charitable Foundation (UNCF/CTE)sponsors scholarship opportunities for a minority senior with a gpa of 3.0 or above planning to attend a UNCF school. The students must possess leadership qualities and some involvement in school and community service. The deadline is April 30, 2007. Vantage Credit Union

Veterans of Foreign Wars

The Veterans of Foreign Wars

James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Program

The James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Program awards scholarships to any student who: demonstrates limited financial resources, is a MO resident and is a graduating Senior at a MO high school. Wal*Mart Corporate Giving

The Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship is available through www.walmartfoundation.org This is a non-renewable $1,000 award. Please check out the above website for more info or to apply.

Zonta Club of St. Louis

The Zonta Club of St. Louis is sponsoring the Zonta International 2007 Young Women in Public Affairs Award. Applicants are asked to describe their world vision of equality for women and to select role models from history and from their daily lives. The applicant must fill in a form, secure letters of recommendations, provide a transcript and a photograph.
