College Counseling: Programs

Jesuit College Fair
Early in September, representatives from approximately 18 Jesuit colleges and universities visit the St. Louis area. St. Joseph’s Academy is one of their stops. These representatives are available to our students for one hour in the De Paul room. The date is specified on the school calendar every year.

St. Joe/Chaminade College Fair
Every year on the last Wednesday in September, St. Joseph’s Academy and Chaminade College Preparatory High School co-sponsor a college fair held on our campus.
* Over 100 colleges and universities attend.
* It is held 6:30-8:30 p.m. and open to all students from both high schools.

Juniors and Parents College Meeting
In January of Junior year, college counselors meet with juniors and their parents and present an overview of the college search process. At that time, handbooks are distributed as well as other information received in the guidance center. This meeting is followed with individual meetings arranged by the student and her parents with her college counselor. These meetings are generally held from February 1st to May 1st.

Freshmen and Sophomores
In second semester, the college counselors meet with the freshmen and sophomore homerooms to present an outline on the college selection process. At this meeting the following issues are addressed:
* The importance of the cumulative GPA.
* A comparison of colleges based on selectivity.
* The importance of course selection in junior and senior year.
* The importance of activities and involvements in and out of school. Please see sample Activities Resume (in College Handbook section) for further details.
* Reminder that it is never too early to start looking at colleges!
