The Guidance Department serves the St. Joseph's community by offering to help students in matters relating to all phases of their school life. Members of the department share responsibilites for the testing program, college services, career services, and on-going personal counseling. The counselors meet with each student at least once during the year and maintain a file with test results and other related information. Although students are assigned a counselor, all students and teachers are free to go to any counselor at any time.
The Department offers groups for personal development and grief counseling, conducts intake sessions with first year and new students, as well as follow-up interviews with established students and on-going personal counseling. The college counselors conduct interviews with parents and junior students. Standardized tests and career inventories are administered to the students. The Learning Consultant assists students with diagnosed educational needs.
The Guidance Department conducts the IMPACT Program through which students who demonstrate a pattern of inappropriate actions or behaviors may be identified and offered assistance.
