How Some Teachers Spent Their Summer
Bud and Sarah Stein and their son, Chris, led a group of 20 St. Joe students on a trip to Paris, Florence and Rome. The weather in June was extremely hot but a wonderful time was had by all none the less. They visited the well known tourist attractions in all three cities and soaked up the culture. The had several adventures as well such as an overnight train ride with an extremely difficult Italian train conductor and a sprint through O’Hare airport in Chicago while they held the plane for them!
Dr. Victoria York visited York, England, this summer and did some research on primal religion there. She spent a good bit of time at York Minster, walked the Roman/Norman city walls and looked into the Viking sites beneath the city. All to enrich the first unit in World religions on "Primal religions."
Science teacher, Katie Lodes spent six days in July at Oregon State University with 20 other teachers from across the country at the EARTH 2008 workshop sponsored by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, the Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education and NASA Astrobiology Science and Technology for Exploring Planets. The week was spent learning about cutting edge marine science and technology from research scientists and then incorporating the science into curricula for K-12 classrooms.
