On November 20 and 21, 2006, 15 members of Mrs. Ruth Athie’s Business Law Class and other area high school students served as jurors in a civil case involving possible insurance fraud. They sat in a jury box to hear testimony and decided the case by deliberating their own verdict. This year, Monday night’s jurors stretched their critical thinking skills when they were part of a "hung" jury.

Each semester the Washington University "Trial and Advocacy Program" stages mock trials as a final exam for the third year law students of the University’s "Trial and Procedure" classes. Thus, St. Joseph’s academicians were afforded the opportunity to experience and participate in an "actual trial" presided over by a real judge. Mrs. Athie’s Business Law Classes have been involved in these mock trials for the past six years.
